TRAVELINSURANCE
Do You Need TravelInsurance?
You may not need travel insurance,
if you are already adequately covered by other insurance policies.
Depending on the travel insurance plan, travel insurance usually
promises to cover you for cancellation or interruption of your trip,
some form of emergency medical care while you are traveling, lost or
stolen luggage, and various other troublesome occurrences.
Before you decide on a travel
insurance plan, it is wise to investigate the plan carefully and read
the fine print. You should closely check any agreements with your
travel agent, tour operator, airline, or other companies involved with
your travel plans. The agreements may include written guarantees.
If you have a fully refundable
airline ticket, you may decide that you would not need trip
cancellation/interruption insurance. |
 |
Some
plans may include, or offer as an option, Accidental Death, Flight
Accidental Death, and Rental Car coverage. Travel insurance
can provide you coverage for medical expenses, trip
cancellation/interruption, baggage damage,
and more.

TRAVELINSURANCE
Most
travelinsurance
policies are found in one or more of four general types:
Package travelinsurance:
the most popular type of travel insurance. Package plans are designed
specifically for a single trip. They are ideal for cruises, tours, air
trips, vacation home rentals, whether foreign, domestic, or for
leisure or business travel. This type of plan is pre-bundled by the
insurance company and provides a wide range of travel coverage such
as:
-
trip cancellation
-
trip interruption
-
travel delay
-
baggage and personal effects
-
baggage delay
-
emergency evacuation
-
travelers assistance and medical
expense.
This type of insurance is usually
rated based on 3 factors:
- your age today
- the cost of your trip
- the length of your trip.
Travelhealthinsurance
Travel plans are specifically
designed to provide medical coverage while you are on your trip.
Many group and individual health insurance plans either don't
cover you outside your coverage area or will restrict coverage
to emergencies only. We strongly recommend that you call your
health insurance provider to determine what you will be covered
for before deciding on the amount of coverage to buy.
Travelinsurance -
Flight Accidental Death
Travel plans that include a
limited form of Accidental Death coverage providing protection
while you are boarding, alighting from, or riding as a passenger
on a scheduled flight of an airline. Some plans include coverage
as part of a package of insurance and others offer it as an
option. Coverage is available up to $1,000,000.
Insurance for RVs
TravelinsuranceMedical Evacuation/Repatriation
travel plans that either
include or have been specifically designed for medical
evacuation/repatriation coverage. This coverage is designed to
evacuate a seriously ill or injured client to the nearest
medical facility and, in some cases, then back home.

Medical Insurance
The Department of State strongly
urges Americans to consult with their medical insurance company
prior to traveling abroad to confirm whether their policy applies
overseas and whether the insurance policy will cover emergency expenses such as a
medical evacuation. To ensure proper reimbursement of medical expenses
by insurance carriers, the U.S. Embassy recommends that patients
ensure they have sufficient documentation of their care and treatment
before leaving the health care facility.
The Social Security Medicare Program does not provide coverage for
hospital or medical costs outside the United States.
To
receive the most benefit from a travel insurance policy
you must purchase the travel insurance
within 7 to 21 days of making your initial trip payment. Travel
insurance can offer trip protection against trip cancellations,
lost baggage, baggage damage and travel health problems.
